Here are the faces behind V.I. Powell & Associates
-
James Worton
Principal - BCLS NO: 757
James is V.I. Powell & Associates resident Seinfield One Liners aficionado. When James isn’t working he can be found sampling Victoria’s best vegan cuisines or at a dog park with his overly friendly dog Max.
-
Scott Pearse
Principal - BCLS NO: 951
Don’t let that calm exterior fool you. Scott’s a fitness beast. An accomplished mountain biker, he’s been known to join a MOMAR race just for fun. When Scott puts his mind to anything, he’s committed all the way. Whether it’s work, sports, or family, he gives his 100%.
-
April Larocque
Principal - BCLS NO: 1040
Voted as V.I. Powell & Associates “Least Photogenic” Land Surveyor. April can either be found yelling into her phone or “in the zone” field surveying. She prides herself on Vegan Mexican cooking although we’ve yet to sample it so we can’t confirm this to be true.
-
Alan Powell
Founder - BCLS NO:599
Known as ‘The OG’ of V.I. Powell & Associates—by that, we mean the old guy who started it all in his basement when he was a young guy. Also, the guy who made the Powell name known in Victoria. And the guy who will always see himself as a surveyor first before a businessman.

-
Mike Morris
Survey Technician
Mike is not only a survey tech, but he’s also the safety manager for V.I. Powell & Associates. You could say Mike is a renaissance man. He plays chess, he occasionally strokes the ivories, he enjoys thumbing through a thesaurus to drop delightful words into his everyday conversations, like ‘cromulent’ and ‘turophile’. (a.k.a. He’s funny and likes cheese) Can you just be ordinary, Mike?
-
Andrew Laing
Field Survey Technician
There’s technical Andrew, and then there’s creative Lainger. And when he’s not out in the field, he’s fine-tuning his career as a professional musician. It’s Canada’s Got Talent—right in your backyard (Disclaimer: we’re not responsible for groupies turning up.)
-
Trask Brown
Field Survey Technician
-
Damian Price
Survey Technician
As our LiDAR specialist, you'd expect Damian to be all about the tech—fine-tuning point clouds and crunching data. But if there’s anyone who can find the perfect balance of bytes and bird songs, it would be this guy. Give him a chance, and he's off running wild in nature. No blackberry thicket is too challenging, no surf too big, and no forest too remote for this Canadian Bear Grylls. Nature is always calling for him. Which is why we try to keep our doors closed.
-
Nick Polanyi
Survey Technician
Nick is our office fitness guy… or so he wants you to believe. He’s a force out in the field at work, and he dominates at every sport you can think of (even ping pong) when he’s not. But behind this workout warrior lies a strategic genius. Rumour has it that he also rules at board games and crushes in chess. With this guy, you never know if he's flexing his muscles or his mastermind. We think world domination is his endgame. Consider yourself warned.
-
Amanda Clarke
Administrator / Field Survey Technician
Amanda is the Jill of All Trades at V.I. Powell & Associates. Whether it’s organizing a field schedule, calling deliquent clients (you know who you are) or slamming iron pins in the field; she’s on it! When Amanda isn’t working you’ll find her spending thyme in her peas-ful garden.
-
Taryn Bishop
Survey Technician
If there’s old survey control hiding in the bushes Taryn will sniff it out like a hound dog on the trail of a dropped hot dog. She’s got the precision of a surveyor and the creative flair of someone who could knit her own high-vis vest (and probably has). Equal parts brains and craft supplies, she’s basically a walking Pinterest board with steel-toed boots. Outspoken, observant, and never without a plan or a backup snack.
-
Max Worton
Head of Barketing
Max plays trumpet for the V.I. Powell & Associates Symphony of Barks. Clients are often greeted with our rendition of "Baby got back-bacon" or "Total Eclipse of the Bark". Max prides himself on his ability to cheer anyone up and his master squirrel chasing abilities. He is yet to catch one...
-
Frida Bandida
Field Survey Dog in Training
V.I. Powell & Associates newest team member Frida has the attitude of a big dog packed into a squeaky chew toy. Her digging skills will soon give Marcus a run for his money once she perfects her accuracy. We look forward to seeing her grow with the team.

Small with Big Possibilities
Like many small business owners, Alan Powell bootstrapped Powell & Associates with his own capital and set up office in his basement in 1986. Over the years, Alan has been fortunate to partner with several talented surveyors and leaders in the industry who have helped shape and establish the Powell & Associates name on Vancouver Island.
I attribute much of Powell & Associates success to having talented and energetic Associates and I am proud that most have been with us for many years.
